Microsoft are investing heavily in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) as they recognise that these capabilities are a critical element of their future product and service offerings.

As a result of this strategy we currently have three AI and ML powered capabilities “out of the box” in Business Central and we expect to see more in future version releases.

All of the AI and ML features are designed around the principle of cognition providing insights and insights driving actions. AI and ML have greater cognition capabilities that traditional reporting methods so can provide insights that would not otherwise have been apparent. These insights can drive actions which give the business a competitive edge.

As stated earlier in this post we expect to see more AI & ML features appearing in Business Central as “out of the box” features. In addition, for customers who have unique business scenarios which would benefit from AI and ML insights they are also providing an Azure based framework in which custom models can be built. These models can then easily be integrated into your BC application to drive the actions that will transform your business processes.

Changes to Dynamics NAV & 365 Business Central Pricing & Licencing

From the 1st October Microsoft announced there will be changes to future licencing policies for the Dynamics NAV and Dynamics 365 Business Central platforms. As each organisation is unique please get in touch to discuss how these changes will affect you.
We will be covering these changes at our annual customer day on the 22nd of November

Pertinent points to note:

• Business Central will use a named user licencing model
• You have until the 31st of December 2018 to buy Microsoft Dynamics NAV
• From the 1st of January 2019 new licenses will only be available for Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central

The two commercial options available for you for purchasing Business Central On Prem are:

Perpetual

If you decide to stay on Perpetual then Microsoft will give you 2 named users for every Concurrent user you have on your licence, there are 2 types of Named user, Essentials and Premium, the latter being for those companies using Manufacturing and / or Service Management. If you have limited users today, then they will be traded on a 1-for-1 basis for the new Team Member user and Device licences will also be done on a 1-for-1. Your version of NAV and the functionality you have purchased will dictate what your trade-in is worth. You should check now to see what you are entitled to.

Subscription

If you opt for the Subscription licence model then Microsoft have announced several options that acknowledge your years of commitment to the Dynamics NAV brand:

Option 1 – You can transition fully to a Subscription-based model and receive a 40% discount of the monthly Subscription price. Customers that chose this route will no longer be paying BREP.

Option 2 – You can transition to a Subscription-based model but choose to carry on paying your BREP. For customers taking this route they will be given an 80% discount on the monthly Subscription price.

Regardless of which option you choose you will have the opportunity to use the Cloud Add-On for an additional monthly fee per user. This means you can have an on-premise or private cloud solution that syncs key data to the Microsoft cloud giving you the opportunity to take advantage of the Intelligent Edge, a set of cloud based connected systems and devices that gather and analyse your data giving users get real-time insights and experiences.

These discounts will be in place until 30th June 2021.

What features can you use to increase your Microsoft Dynamics NAV/365 Business Central Security?

Total Enterprise Solutions (TES) are dedicated to ensuring their processes and systems are as secure as possible. Since undertaking and achieving ISO 27001 certification, and GDPR coming into force, TES endeavour to continuously improve our systems and procedures to enhance levels of security to reduce the risk of data leaks or hacking.

It is estimated that organisations worldwide lose 5% of revenue to fraud. That’s a projected loss of £193 Billion in the UK economy -$3.5 trillion worldwide. Coupled with career criminals becoming increasingly professional, and convincing with their approaches, security is an imperative topic to all organisations.

Facebook are in the news again this week for lack of transparency and failing to protect users information. The £500,000 fine was due to the timing, the ICO said it was unable to levy the new penalties introduced by the European General Data Protection (GDPR), which caps fines at the higher level of 20 million Euros or 4% of global turnover.

Vendor Bank Account Security

TES are therefore delighted to announce the release of our Vendor Bank Account Security Module for Microsoft Dynamics NAV / 365 Business Central.

The standard Dynamics NAV / 365 Business Central security and approvals are supplemented by a simple workflow, based around the creation and modification of Vendor Bank Account Records by implementing the following business logic.

  1. All changes to Vendor Bank Account details immediately place the record into a “Blocked” state.
  2. Vendor Bank Accounts can only be unblocked by users other than the user logged as making the change.
  3. At the time of payment journal posting all Vendor Bank Accounts in the journal are checked to see if they are in a blocked state. If any Vendor Bank Accounts are in a blocked state, then it is not possible to post the journal.
  4. Vendors can be profiled as ‘Dormant’. If this setting is applied, the status of all related Vendor Bank Account Records is set to blocked.
  5. Vendors marked as ‘Dormant’ are displayed in the Vendor list view in yellow to visually indicate this.

This module therefore provides you with an additional level of security to the processes of:

  • Creating Vendor Bank Account Records
  • Managing Vendor Banks Account Records
  • Managing Vendor Records
  • Validation of Electronic Payments to Suppliers

Adding this additional layer of functional control provides you with a risk management strategy to assist in minimising the potential for fraud within your organisation.
